On September 8, 2016, the Inter-American Chapter co-hosted a Logistics and Supply Chain Leaders conference with Inbound Logistics magazine at the Four Seasons Hotel in Miami. The one day conference was opened by Mexican Consul General in Miami, the honorable Jose Antonio Zabalgoitia. Six panels on topics related to logistics were held throughout the day. Included were, “Current Assessment and Growth Potential of the U.S.-Mexico Logistics Corridor,” “Supply Chain Integration in the Americas,” “Customs and Border Facilitation,” Challenges and Opportunities in Cross Border E-Commerce,” “Specialty Logistics,” and “Investing and Financing Logistics Infrastructure and Projects.”
The conference was well attended by over 120 attendees comprised of individuals representing port authorities in both countries, CEO’s and VP’s of Mexican and U.S. large, medium and small companies, banks, railroads, transport companies, international bridges, etc. The keynote luncheon speaker was Raul Alfonso, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer for Port Tampa Bay. Two high level federal government representatives, Seth M. Stodder, Assistant Secretary for Border, Immigration, & Trade Policy from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Ricardo Trevino Chapa, Director of Customs from Mexico’s Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SAT) were special guests. There was good dialogue precipitated by a variety of questions and answers. The hosts expect to make this a yearly event!
