Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán was created in 1897, and is considered the best Mariachi in Mexico. In the decades that followed, it became the quintessential mariachi. It has made numerous recordings and appeared in more than 200 films. Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlán was established in 1965, and they quickly gained notoriety given the quality of their interpretations, and have accompanied legendary Mexican artists such as Vicente Fernández and Lola Beltrán, among others. The Irving Symphony Orchestra is a non-profit organization originated as the Irving String Orchestra in 1961, and through the years it has established itself as one of the finest symphony orchestras in North Texas. In 1991, Héctor Guzmán was appointed music director of the symphony.
