USMCOC PRESENTED THE 2014 GOOD NEIGHBOR AWARDS IN WASHINGTON, D.C.

May 15th, 2014. Washington, D.C. – Albert Zapanta, President of the USMCOC, hosted the ceremony along with Alfonso García Cacho, Vice Chairman of the Chamber and Executive Director of Mexico Business Summit.

The Good Neighbor Award for the Public Sector went to Mr. José Antonio Meade Kuribreña
Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Mexico (represented by Dr. Carlos Pérez Verdía, Chief of Staff), for his leadership in building productive relations between Mexico and the U.S. during his long career in the public service, and to Mr. Alan Bersin, Assistant Secretary of International Affairs and Chief Diplomatic Officer for the United States Department of Homeland Security, a long standing supporter of lawful trade and travel between the two countries.

The USMCOC was proud to present the Private Sector Good Neighbor Award to Charles Dougherty, President and CEO of American Science & Engineering, Inc., for their , innovation and high quality x-ray equipment, which has improved the screening process of cargo and vehicles at the border, enhancing border security, and facilitating trade for both countries.

Grupo Bimbo, was the Mexican company selected to receive the Private Sector Award, as they provide the ultimate example of a successful business with operations in North America, and around the world. Raúl Argüelles, Chief Human Relations Officer of Grupo Bimbo represented the company

Finally, the USMCOC was proud to present for the first time the Good Neighbor Inspirational Award to Mallory Weggemann, American Olympic Gold Medalist, Paralympic Swimming, and Arly Velasquez, Mexican Paralympic Alpine Mono-skier, whose stories of enormous strength and determination in pursuing their goals have inspired us to create an Award to distinguish those who have overcome great challenges.

Since 1985, we have gathered in Washington, D.C., to witness the presentation of the Good Neighbor Award to ministers, ambassadors, governors, congressmen, former presidents, corporate CEOs, chairmen of organizations and others who have made a significant difference in U.S.-Mexico relations.
